The project expects to increase the possibilities for technology and research cooperation, in particular between Higher Education Institutions and Industry. In EU practices, IP is a major element of this cooperation, as it is important for an HEI to maintain control of its developments and innovation. In BRIC countries, this practice is less widespread and it is considered that this can be a learning exercise for all parties involved.
On the other hand, by extending the EU practices, cooperation on a scientific level can be greatly enhanced between BRIC HEIs and their European counterparts. As mentioned in the project rationale, the European Research Advisory Board has stressed the importance of deepening ties with emerging economies, such as BRIC. This project will aim to bridge this overarching goal with a small-scale step to promote the correct application of research methods for the protection and subsquent commercialisaton of results.
